Quick Intro to Insta360 Air

If you’re an Android User looking for an affordable 360 camera, this could be perfect for you. Compatible solely with Android devices, this is actually an addition that fastens to the top of your smartphone, but is also compatible with laptops and computers through connection with a transfer cable.

As far as sharing goes, this device allows immediate sharing on Facebook, Youtube, Twitters, WhatsApp, and more, and can be livestreamed on any 360-livestreaming platform, including Youtube.

Featuring real time stitching, 3K photo resolution (3008 x 1504) and 2K video resolution (2560 x 1280) on most Samsung devices (3K video on specific devices), this is quite substantial for a device that aims to be sold for under $100.  The video has 30 frames per second capabilities, and is generally a convenient and simple option for the 360-video hobbyist. Content captured with this smartphone camera can be exported in all of its 360-degree glory to a social media platform, or it can be sent to a program to be viewed in-depth with a virtual reality headset.

Throw in the fact that the footage is subject to advanced stabilization technology, and you have high quality video content that is easy to engage with, which can be livestreamed and enjoyed widely, for an incredibly affordable price. The product itself weighs only 26.5 grams and is a beautifully convenient addition to your smartphone.

Insta360 Air is a small organization of just 200 people with a common goal: to make 360degree cameras and accessories affordable and accessible to everyone who uses a smartphone. They have undertaken ambitious and creative methods to establish themselves, including raising upwards of $240,000 through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to fund the production of their device.

Though their unconventional production process creates some questions, these cameras should be fully established and on the market during the second quarter of 2017: the first batch will go to their “backers” from Indiegogo in late February, whereas you’ll begin to see these cameras on shelves in April. This is not a practical option for a professional, but it is perfect for the hobbyist who simply wants to add 360-capabilities to their smartphone and take the initial steps toward engaging with that style of content creation.

On its own, the price for the device is set at $99, but there are all sorts of packages for purchase that all offer their own unique advantages. Packages range from $119-$299, and feature bundles as minimal as a mount and a transfer cable, to more comprehensive combinations of stands, mounts, tripods, and more– all the way to a secondary device coming with the product.

Should you buy Insta360 Air?

There are a few features that are left to be desired, and the resolution isn’t going to blow anybody away, but the fact that this is so compatible with an Android phone makes it incredibly user-friendly, and the price is difficult to beat. For under $100, it is highly unlikely that a camera of this quality will become available anytime soon. The value is huge, the price is low, and the Insta360 Air comes highly recommended.
