Homido HOMIDO1 Review

homido-HOMIDO1-vr-headset

Homido brings another VR option to the table in the “lower-middle class” range of VR headsets. Priced under $100, it is a significant upgrade over Google Cardboard, obviously, as it is built out of things that are not cardboard… But, the question becomes:

How does the Homido VR headset do in terms of value?

If value is being defined as “bang for your buck”, I would say that, in comparison to other similar products, Homido does not offer significant value. It’s roughly 6 times more expensive than Google Cardboard– is it 6 times better?

Homido HOMIDO1 Virtual Reality Headset for Smartphone
  • Turn any 4-6" iPhone/android smartphone into a virtual reality headset
  • Enjoy immersive 360 games, videos (3D movies), photos and unique experiences
  • Works with over 300+ iOS/android apps on apple app store and google play store
  • Custom designed VR lenses offer industry leading 100 FOV and clarity with minimal distortion

I don’t think so.

I’ll start with the positives, though. I like the design. It’s made from solid, slick plastic, which gives it a high-quality feel. Not only does it look good, but it is also pretty comfortable for a headset. It is also compatible with a decent amount of devices, including iOS and Android smartphones. Other than standard VR features that I like, that’s about it for positives.

As far as negatives, I’ll try to keep it brief:

It’s too expensive. It doesn’t earn its high price. The games that are worth engaging with are also available on Google Cardboard and other VR platforms. Many of the best are still Android exclusive. Also, there is no input button on the side of this headset, which seems like a strange oversight, consider the cost of the device. The lack of this button makes certain games immediately unplayable, as you can’t connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth unless you buy a separate controller with such capabilities.

I hope Homido pulls it together for their next headset. For now, my advice is simple: buy something else.
